Applied NAPASA
Materials
The applied social action program has three elements, all of which
may be implemented by a local human rights group or sexual assault
service. They are:
-
Document the
Outrageous
Use the materials to start a court watching program. Document the
outrageous process at the local level, where the participants have
real names and local jobs. Use the documentation for press releases
and to lobby for changes at the local level.
-
Challenge the
Legal System
Use the research material to gain the cooperation of the local State
Attorney for use by the prosecution during local trials to raise
legal objections and force the legal arguments into the appeal
process.
-
Support Adult
Victims
Use the research material to prepare the adult witness for what will
happen and how to respond to avoid the common defense traps. Sexual
assault trials are a script waiting to be acted out in court; there
are few surprises. A victim can be ready for what will happen.
